For the record, can you state your name and role in the band?
Nick: Nicholas Andrew Johnson and I sing for A Step Ahead!
First of all, bring us up to date with what the band's been up to since the release of the In It To Win It EP last February.
Nick: We have been making new contacts all around the country and have also been making great friends along the way. This year for us has been one that we will not forget filled with constant touring, writing and laughter. We recently went on Warped Tour with Arkaik Clothing and have met so many important people and that can take us to the next level and we are very excited about the future of A Step Ahead!
So the word is you guys will be returning to producer Curtis Douglas to
record your next release this coming Spring. How much new material do you guys have written so far?
Nick: Yes we will be returning to Curtis Douglas to record our new record and I can not express how excited we are to do it. Curtis is not only our producer but he is also an amazing friend. We click so well when we work together and as for the new material we have two brand spankin' new songs for everyone to listen to. I can hardly wait to show everyone we went out of our element on this one and it came out beautifully and of course very catchy.
Are you guys aiming for another EP or a full-length? When could we possibly expect the next release to be out?
Nick: It's to early to announce our next release. We still feel In It To Win It is pretty fresh. Right now we are touring and writing. We will be booking the studio time soon. As of now we will be doing EP. Things could change though.
The band also recently released a new music video that'd been planned for months. Tell us what it was like filming the video and how the concept came about.
Nick: Carlos Berber did a great job! We couldnt be happier. It was a lot of fun. Huge shout out to Phoenix Dodgeball for making it happen. Without them we couldn't have done dodgeball. We had the concept for a long time. Just took the time to hook up with the right people to make it happen.
Our xEasycorex.net tour with In Her Own Words kicks off in under 2 weeks. What're you looking forward to the most about the tour? Are there any particular dates or cities you're anticipating?
Nick: We couldn't be happier to pair up with you guys on the tour and we will always support xEasycorex.net. We cant wait for the tour to start. It feels well overdue.
What made you guys choose In Her Own Words to share the tour with?
Nick: We have known those guys for quite sometime. We have always wanted to work more with them. Timing just worked out and it's happening.
Colin, you're also the band's manager under Advanced Artistry Management - what interested you in the management side of things? How did AAM start out?
Colin: We have always been a DIY band. So I decided to take it legit. The company continues to progress with the band. The mission of AAM is to provide our bands with resources in the music industry and develop.
It seems like the band is definitely eager to continue getting its name out to a wider audience. What does the future hold for the band and what else would you like to achieve?
Nick: We don't know the future… Although we have high hopes for ASA. We enjoy what we do and see progression.
Outside of the band, what other interests do you guys have?
Nick: We all hang out on the regular. It's a pretty tight family. This weekend we are having a Ugly Christmas Sweater Party. Everyone does the daily when we aren't touring. Nothing crazy that I know of.
With 3 EPs under your belts, looking back, what would you say has been the biggest highlight of being in the band?
Nick: We'd say that the biggest highlight of being in the band is just the experience we get traveling to new places and making friends with all sorts of new people.
